A trailer for a new documentary about the final season of Stranger Things was released on Monday, giving fans a closer look at how the epic conclusion of the nearly decade-long sci-fi series came together.
The final season of Stranger Things saw the Hawkins crew finally defeating the monsters of the Upside Down and moving into a more peaceful future — but what happened behind the scenes? The Martina Radwan-directed documentary, titled One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things Season 5, pulls back the curtain.
“A decade after rewiring pop culture, Stranger Things returns for its final chapter,” the synopsis reads. “One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things Season 5 is a sweeping behind-the-scenes chronicle that follows the cast, creators, and crew as they bring the final season to life — and say goodbye to the show that changed them forever.”
Radwan spent a year on the Stranger Things set to document the filmmaking process, according to Netflix’s Tudum. The trailer highlights how the final season of Stranger Things evolved from script to screen, with cocreators Ross and Matt Duffer discussing their process for crafting a fitting ending — including why they felt conflicted about the sacrificial choice Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) made in the final episode. It also showcases the movie magic that turned soundstages and blue screens into the Upside Down.
Of course, it also gives insight into how the beloved cast of Stranger Things felt while filming the final season, particularly the young cast who grew up on the set. “I’m not ready to let go,” Brown says at one point in the trailer. Other moments include the cast tearing up at a table read, plus the final wrap on the series, where confetti rained down on the crew.
Fans got emotional in the YouTube comments of the trailer. One wrote, “10 years of us watching stranger things and for them its their whole childhood.” Another added, “Oh that last table read is gonna be heartbreaking.” A third shared, “I was never attached to any TV shows like this, it is truly amazing and unforgettable, gonna miss all the characters.”
One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things Season 5 will be released on Netflix on Jan. 12.
